Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 2026

The short version

This site uses one privacy-friendly analytics tool (GoatCounter) to count page visits. It sets no cookies, performs no cross-site tracking, and collects no personal data. There is no advertising, no profiling, and no third-party identity scripts.

What this site does

PhasmoLab is a static website. Loading a page downloads HTML, CSS, JavaScript and fonts from the host, which the browser then renders locally. The site holds no account system and stores nothing that identifies a visitor. Challenges are encoded entirely in the URL and never touch a server.

Analytics (GoatCounter)

GoatCounter records anonymous, aggregate statistics: page views, referrer, browser type, and an approximate location derived from IP. No personal data is collected, no cookies are set, and individual users cannot be identified. IP addresses are used only to determine a country and are then discarded.

GoatCounter's approach to privacy is documented on their site. The browser "Do Not Track" setting is honoured automatically. Blocking gc.zgo.at through a privacy extension also prevents counting, and the site functions normally either way.

Local storage

The browser may retain limited interface state during a visit - for example, the rule categories selected in the generator. This data stays on the device and is never transmitted. Share links encode challenge state in the URL only.

External links

Some pages link to external sites (Steam, the Phasmophobia Fandom wiki, and others). Once followed, those sites operate under their own privacy policies. This site does not track which links are clicked.

Google Fonts are loaded from fonts.googleapis.com for typography. Per Google's documentation, font requests set no tracking cookies. Blocking them through a browser or extension falls back to system fonts without affecting functionality.

Hosting

As with any website, the host (for example Vercel, Netlify or GitHub Pages) keeps standard server logs containing IP addresses, user agents and timestamps. These exist for security and operational purposes and are governed by the hosting provider's privacy policy.

Changes to this policy

Any change updates the "Last updated" date above. Material changes are also noted in the project changelog.
